HAPPY FURTHER DAYS
Shaking off a four-day 104 deg fever, Raul popped up in Beacon with a Fathers Day card as ever ready for whatever. Dad wanted breakfast in bed, laundry done, room cleaned, floors and windows washed, Benz fixed, a farmers market run, dinner prepped, homework completed and an early bedtime.
We settled on coffee, cereal and spending some time on the turntables before really seeing what the day had to offer. Used the Johnny Osbourne original Studio 1 "Truth + Rights" and the Bobby Konders Massive B "Truth + Rights" riddim to explain a basic DJ set-up and how a mixer works...but had more fun working with a bunch of heavy dub 7ins reissued from the Negus Roots catalog—Lacksley Castell, Don Carlos, Negus Roots Players.

MUHHEAKANTUCK
Raul capped the weekend off celebrating observing the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson's voyage up the Muhheakantuck—now known as the Hudson River—along with folk icon/activist/Beaconite Pete Seeger, the sloops Woodie Guthrie and Clearwater, other majestic riverworthy vessels and a throng of folks from all over who have found they "could be happy / just spending their days / on the river that flows both ways."
Oh yeah, and face painting. And folk songs!
